Everyone's a comedian

Some artists work with paint, some with clay, others, Amazon reviews. Not all 7 pages are worth reading, but scan a few.

EMO was right!

It turns out that Germans do yearn for American bagels. Here's a list of things that Germans like about America - translated by babelfish which yields some interesting items, not all of which can be blamed on the wacky translation. For example: "Barbara Streisand"? Do you know what I like about America? The Lobster with hydrogen drive.

The Don Martin Dictionary -- Alphabetical Listing

Cool list of Don Martin's sound effect words along with their contexts. It only lists those words in the magazine and not elsewhere, so it's not comprehensive. I distinctly remember reading the word "Zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem" (a man falling) in one of the Captain Klutz books when I was in elementary school. If only it were a joke!

Finally, the source of "My Pet Goat"

It's bugged me that the story Bush was listening to on Sept. 11 has been so hard to find. According to Google Answers, here's the info. The story isn't "My Pet Goat", but "The Pet Goat" and it's not a book unto itself, it's part of a school textbook full of stories.

I Got A Commentary Jones

Every once in a while, Terry Jones writes funny political commentaries for UK newspapers. This one is particularly funny, which is in the same vein as this one. Take a look at his Wikipedia profile for more.

Kids Play

Yeah, it's a repeat but read it again. The article that Electronic Gaming Monthly came out with eight months ago still cracks me up. Nine kids aged 10-13 comment on classic videogames.

Edward Tufte: Ask E.T. forum

Cool excerpt from Edward Tufte's forthcoming book. Tufte's talking about sparklines - data-dense word-like graphs that can share the line with text. Check out page 6 for some interesting baseball examples.

This movie trailer amused me.

Pop/Soda/Coke Map

Check out this excellent map that tracks generic names for carbinated soft drinks. What's going on in Missouri? It's a soda oasis between pop and coke country.

Cold Turkey -- In These Times

Kurt's a little rambling in this article, but there's still a lot of good stuff here. Give him a break. He's 81 - and a little pissed off, too.
